Mental disorders are a significant issue in both society and the criminal justice system. In this course, students will explore various psychological disorders and their impact on criminal behavior. The course will cover mental incapacity within criminal law and the use of preventive measures, such as psychiatric institutions. Students will also study non-psychotic mental disorders and available therapeutic interventions. Key topics will include the determinants and causes of serial murders, cannibalism, and substance abuse.
The course will involve analyzing and solving criminal case studies, where students will determine what happened at crime scenes and identify the type of serial killer involved in each case. Through these exercises, students will develop critical thinking and criminal profiling skills.
