Adaptation studies is a dynamically developing field. The ubiquity of adaptations in modern culture attracts the attention of scholars with various disciplinary backgrounds to this phenomenon. Research on film adaptations appears in such disciplines as psychology, literature, film, theatre, art, music, new media, history, sociology, cultural studies, politics, and many others, including gender, postcolonial, and other approaches associated with identity politics. This course will focus on film adaptations of literary works. During the course, the students will be familiarized with the history of the discipline and the theory of adaptation studies. We will watch and discuss various film adaptations that use different approaches to the source texts.
